Case Report: The case of a 14-year-old boy with Salter-Harris type II displaced fracture underwent surgery with open reduction has been described.
Fracture of the growth plate is an injury unique to childhood. Most such fractures heal without permanent deformity. A small percentage, however, are complicated by growth arrest and subsequent deformity. The Salter-Harris classification of growth plate injuries aids in estimating both the prognosis and the potential for growth disturbance.
In general, upper extremity injuries are more common than lower-extremity injuries. Of the five most common Salter-Harris fracture types, type II is the most common (75%) followed by types III (10%), IV (10%), type I (5% Salter Harris fractures refer to fracture seen in children along the physis or growth plate. There are multiple different types with multiple causes. In the next day, the MRI scan confirmed the presence of a Salter‐Harris type 2 fracture in the distal third of the right femur (Figure 2). The newborn was treated with a cast and immobilization. At the one month follow‐up, the clinical and radiological examinations have indicated a successful outcome.

A Salter-Harris I fracture of the distal fibula can be easily confused with an ankle sprain. In an adult, twisting the ankle most often results in a sprain of the ankle ligaments. However, in a growing child, the growth plate is much weaker than the surrounding ligaments, which means the same twisting injury is more likely to cause a growth plate fracture than an ankle sprain.
